EXCLUSIVE: Interview With; While We Wait

We recently sat down (via email) with southern Ohio post-hardcore band While We Wait to talk about all their current goings-on, as well as what brought them back together as a band after a small hiatus last year.
UO - First off just give us a quick rundown of you and your band and who plays what!

WWW - While We Wait is made up of Tyler Hughes (Vocals), Tater Fight (Guitar), Brandon Haney (Guitar), Shane DePriest (Bass), and Tyson Miller (Drums). We are a 5-piece post-hardcore band from Wheelersburg, Ohio.
UO - You (somewhat) recently got back together with the band after taking a small hiatus. Care to shed some light on that whole situation?

WWW - Yes, last summer we decided to put the band on the “back-burner” so to speak. We all headed in different directions after high-school (College, Military, etc) and there were no hard feelings whatsoever.
And almost half a year later, we sort of felt out of place not playing music together. We knew it was something that meant a lot to us, so we started writing again.
UO - After you got back together, you released a new single “The Reply” how was recording that, and how has the response been so far?
WWW - “The Reply” was the first song we chose to record because we wanted to show our listeners how our sound was evolving. With slight line-up changes we wanted to expose the “new” sound of www and we felt like this song was a great way to do that.
Recording is always a fun process. We record with John Franck in Westerville, OH and we are always pleased with his work.
So far, we are SUPER PLEASED with the feedback we are getting from our new sound and we cannot wait to release more tunes for everyone!
UO - What is the meaning behind the song itself?
WWW - “The Reply” is actually a reply to another one of our songs titled “Lights” which we also released as a demo on YouTube. The story starts off with “Lights” with lyrics that are reminiscing good times, persuading someone to stay & not to give up hope once you’ve hit a little “bump-in-the-road” in a relationship. “The Reply” is actually from the other person’s point of view. The tone of the song is very straight-forward and stern. Bitter lyrics express the emotions that the person is going through.
We write music/lyrics that we think anyone can relate to. Most of the time we have either experienced these situations first-hand and we use that as inspiration to write!
Make sure to check out our live music video for “The Reply” shot by Matt Day!

UO - What bands/artists really influence WWW as a whole?

WWW - Gosh, we seriously could go on forever! We all probably could say a bunch of different bands. Being from Ohio and growing up with such great music all around you really is amazing. With that being said, Ohio natives My Ticket Home and Miss May I are a big influence as well as some others (Norma Jean, Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance).
UO - Care to give us a backstory on how While We Wait even came together?
WWW - While We Wait was started  by several reincarnations of other local bands in our area. We started around November 2010 as nothing serious and then we kicked into to gear and started to make our run on in early 2011. We were just some kids in high school disturbing the neighborhood and now we are a bunch of college kids doing what we love most.
UO - Will we be hearing new music from you guys soon? ;)
WWW - Yes of course!!! We are heading back to the studio late May and June. We will be in and out of there all summer recording our EP that is going to be released later this year.
UO - It’s still early in the year, so what all can we expect to see from WWW in the coming months?
WWW -  2012 is going to be really big year for us. We know that a lot of people say that but we are stoked about everything that is happening for us. We are playing all over the Tri-State area, recording our debut EP, and planning our first tour that will be happening at the end of summer! We are just thankful for all the support and continuous help from our listeners by spreading the word. And if you don’t know us we would love to get to know you! Hit us up!
